The Cottonwood Creek at Kumar Sewer Protection Project is located on Cottonwood Creek just west of Academy Blvd. A 30" sanitary sewer main crosses and runs parallel to Cottonwood Creek. Stream degradation has caused failure of a downstream grade control structure and has undermined another structure that is protecting the sanitary sewer main. Colorado Springs Utilities has contracted with Tezak Heavy Equipment to construct a grouted sloping boulder drop structure just downstream of the sanitary sewer crossing and rehabilitate the existing undermined grade control structure by adding grouted boulders downstream of the structure.
